NightHawk TWIN Units
What are NightHawk TWINS?
The NightHawk is produced as a single unit programmed to be controlled by a single remote. The serial number of the remote will match the serial number on the ARM shield of the NightHawk.
In some instances, agencies request that TWO NightHawks be paired to a single remote so that BOTH will fire when remotely commanded to do so. These are NightHawk TWIN pairs (TWINS) and are sometimes used in checkpoint installations to cover more lanes of road.
Are NightHawk TWINS provided with only one single remote?
In a TWIN pair of NightHawk units, each NightHawk unit will have a remote. This enables a station to have a spare remote that will fire BOTH units simultaneously.
How can we tell that a remote is part of a TWIN pair?
Each NightHawk unit is assigned a unique serial number, however, a remote that controls a TWIN pair of NightHawk units will have TWO serial numbers. The first serial number will designate the NightHawk "Mother unit receiver" and the second will designate the "Sister unit receiver".
For example, a Policing Station receives two NightHawks, upon opening a NightHawk case, the Agents note the label on the remote clipped to the inside of the lid. The label reads SN3010 3011....meaning the remote will activate BOTH SN3010 AND 3011 if BOTH NightHawk units are ARMED.
The first number on the label is the serial number of the NightHawk mother unit SN3010 and the second is the sister unit SN3011. Upon opening the other unit the numbers on the remote will read SN3011 3010....meaning the remote will activate BOTH SN3011 AND 3010 if BOTH NightHawk units are ARMED.
The serial number of each NightHawk receiver can be found on the wire shield just to the right of the arm LED under the silver ARM bracket.
How far from each other could be units be placed?
A typical TWIN installation at a checkpoint places two units approximately 100-200 ft down the road from the checkpoint shack. NightHawks are placed on a single side of the road (to cover shoulder and driving lane) or either side of the road (to cover both lanes). Units will simultaneously fire as long as there is a clear line of sight between the remote and the NighHawk units.
Will the remote activate both at the same time or will have a choice of activating one or the other?
In a TWIN pair of NightHawks, the remote will fire BOTH systems at the same time...as long as they are BOTH ARMED.
Is there an extra cost for programming individual NightHawk units to become a TWIN pair?
There is no extra cost for programming individual NightHawk units to become part of a TWIN pair.
